The minister's response on the consequences for Canal+ was judged a little less convincing than on other points of the hearing.
The measure mainly targets Canal+, most of whose activities still benefit from the reduced rate, even though the channel also offers services subject to the full rate.
Canal+ has already denounced the scheme. The group has threatened to raise subscription prices and to implement a redundancy plan.
The culture budget is still presented as stable, at 4.36 billion euros in payment appropriations, down 0.6% compared with the previous year.
The 2027 finance bill provides for"simplifying the VAT regime applicable"to pay television, by abolishing the reduced 10% rate and raising it to 20%, the rate already applied to on-demand program platforms, according to the text.
