New cross strikes hit energy targets in Russia and Ukraine on the night of Saturday October 17 to Sunday 18, depriving tens of thousands of people of electricity and causing large fires.
In Saint Petersburg, Ukrainian drone strikes notably hit the oil terminal, sparking impressive fires on this site. Russian e-commerce giant Ozon also announced that a fire broke out in one of its logistics centers hit by a drone in the same city.
Kyiv says it is carrying out these attacks in retaliation for Russian bombings which have devastated its energy system since the large-scale Russian offensive. Ukraine also specifies that it aims to weaken the hydrocarbon windfall financing the Kremlin's war effort.
