The day after his release from hospital, Pope Leo XIV addressed thousands of faithful gathered in Saint Peter's Square for the Angelus prayer on Sunday October 18.
His first appearance at the window of the apostolic palace was greeted with cries of “Long live the Pope!” by a chorus of female voices on the esplanade.
“I really felt your support, thank you,” said the leader of the Catholics, referring to a “delicate phase” now “overcome”.
“This experience made me feel in a particular way the closeness with all those who are going through illness and a situation of infirmity,” continued the sovereign pontiff, who appeared in good shape.
