The Prime Minister announced on Tuesday an increase in the Livret A rate, currently set at 1.7%, as well as its ceiling, which could rise from 22,950 euros to an amount between 25,000 and 30,000 euros.

More than eight out of ten French people hold a Livret A. At first glance, raising the ceiling and the rate is likely to swell outstanding deposits.

This additional savings is meant to feed the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, which will then be able to lend to the Regions, which are responsible for work in high schools.

The stated objective is notably to devote part of this savings to the renovation of high schools.

Hervé de La Tour d'Artaise, president of the wealth-management consulting firm A2PF, indicated that more than half of savers have drawn on their savings rather than adding to them.

The announcement comes on the eve of a day of mobilization over purchasing power, scheduled for Thursday, November 5, and also responds to a high-school student demand.

The rate increase has not been quantified with precision. The targeted ceiling also remains indicative, between 25,000 and 30,000 euros.
