The government announced Tuesday a raising of the Livret A ceiling, between 25,000 and 30,000 euros, compared with 22,950 euros currently. The measure will apply from February 2027.

Livret A funds had until now been allocated primarily to social housing and local authorities. The scope is now opening to the renovation of high schools and the climate-change adaptation of public buildings and infrastructure.

Mr. Crevel sees in this a contradiction with the policy pursued for years, which aimed to lengthen savings. The government had put in place the retirement savings plan and encouraged the French to finance companies.

The executive thus aims to channel more savings toward the Caisse des dépôts, so that it can grant additional loans. These resources must notably finance the construction of nuclear power plants and the renovation of high schools.

Nearly nine million people already have a Livret A at the ceiling. The government is indirectly inviting them to save more.

Sébastien Lecornu indicated Tuesday, November 3, that this raising would take place"in February, at the same time as the update of the rate which will also be set to increase.""It's indirect, we go through the Livret A, we will transform Livret A money into loans to the regions,"he indicated. Using this money"allows the State to find additional borrowing capacity.".
