Several large cities in northern Italy, including Bologna, Turin and Milan, were the scene of scenes of chaos on Saturday October 17 and Sunday October 18, during demonstrations against the high cost of living at the initiative of the Italia in Piazza movement and unions such as the CGIL.
In Milan, police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse violent groups in the square of the famous cathedral, the Duomo.
Young people were seen leaving a convenience store with a broken window, claiming to have joined the movement after seeing images on social media.
Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, linked the violence of this movement to identical scenes observed in particular in France and Belgium.
