Nationwide, the Interior Ministry counts 146,000 demonstrators on November 7. The youth inter-union coalition puts the figure at 250,000. The day marks the fourth Saturday of mobilization since October 17. The march’s title places youth and the cost of living at the center of the call.

The comparison with November 5 measures the decline. That day, the Interior Ministry had counted 575,000 people in France, including 65,000 in Paris, gathered at the call of the inter-union coalition.

The broad esplanade of Place de la République, the starting point, is packed with people. It is from there that the march sets off, in a capital already mobilized two days earlier.

The gap between these two union counts thus remains limited to a thousand people. The police figure, for its part, does not vary from one source to another.

In Paris, the range also narrows: 65,000 according to the Interior Ministry and 350,000 according to the CGT on November 5, compared with 46,000 according to the police and 76,000 according to the organizers this Saturday. The march nevertheless remains the fourth Saturday gathering since October 17, still held under the slogan of youth and the cost of living.

The CGT had cited, for that same day, 1.6 million people nationwide, including 350,000 in the capital. National orders of magnitude thus shift from several hundred thousand, or even more than a million according to the union, to 146,000 or 250,000 depending on the source.

The account of the demonstration records 46,000 participants according to the police and 76,000 according to the organizers. Reports published the same day attribute 46,000 people to the police prefecture and 75,000 to the youth inter-union coalition.
