Kahn said most Apple devices still face supply limits, driven in part by trouble obtaining enough microprocessors made on “advanced nodes.” Those constraints are expected to last into next year and to hit iPads and Macs especially hard.

Some customers have reported cracked screens. Last week Apple said it would replace phones affected by a fault that caused a “small number” of the new devices to crack along the inside fold. Apple has said throughout the year that iPhone sales were surging even as it warned that key parts for the iPhone, Macs and iPads were scarce enough to weigh on sales.

On Monday the company said that over the past year it sold more iPhones worldwide than ever before. “At this time, it’s really hard to predict when supply and demand will be in balance,” Kahn said on that call.
