During his speech, the Head of State reaffirmed his support for the police. This weekend, around 1,500 businesses were affected by ransacking or looting, generating a bill of several hundred million euros that is expected to rise.

Emmanuel Macron addressed the French at 8 p.m. in an 8-minute speech, after bringing together his main ministers following the scenes of chaos in several cities in France following the violence of October 17.

The President of the Republic declared: “Those who destroyed must pay, those who looted must repay, those who sought to bring down the Republic will have to answer.” He also added:"I want to tell them that they will not be left alone to face these difficulties.".

The Prime Minister and the government have taken decisions in conjunction with fuel distributors so that these efforts have a concrete impact on prices. Finally, the president called on the French to prioritize democratic debate six months before the election and asked to condemn the violence unambiguously.

This speech was judged harshly by the opposition, some believe that it is irresponsible to speak and say nothing.
