Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, 27, will launch her professional career in mid-December, after having to postpone a first fight as a professional. In February, she revealed in L’Équipe that she had undergone hormone treatment to lower her testosterone level before the 2024 Olympics.
The move to the professionals comes after months of controversy related to her gender and her sporting status.
Last April, she had to postpone her first professional fight after an injury in training.
The Algerian boxer is now aiming for the professional circuit after this period of interruption.
She is regularly accused of being a transgender athlete.
“The last few years (after Paris-2024) have been quite complicated during this time off,” she added. “It’s been two years and some that I haven’t boxed, and I really missed the ring,” she said. “The time had come to turn professional, I’m going to give it everything,” Imane Khelif declared.
