The smartphone and computer market is going through a crisis, even if some manufacturers are doing better than others.
Due to the deployment of artificial intelligence, tech giants like Open AI, Google and Microsoft are purchasing a large quantity of microprocessors and memory cards for their data centers. Being prepared to pay the price, they capture most of the available chips, causing a shortage which penalizes smartphone manufacturers and computer manufacturers, and leads to an increase in prices that manufacturers pass on to the final price of the devices.
As a result, consumers are having trouble keeping up, buying fewer phones, computers or tablets, and changing them less often.
The two market leaders, Samsung and Apple, are however holding up better with a decline in sales of around 5%, because they have more margins to absorb the shock.
