The multinational saw the margins of its refining activity quintuple between July and September compared to the same period last year. Its refining-chemicals branch brought in $3.5 billion in the third quarter of 2026, compared to $687 million in the third quarter of 2025. These results far exceed those of the first two quarters of 2026, which already reflected the surge in hydrocarbon prices linked to conflicts in the Middle East. In the third quarter of 2026, adjusted net income thus reached $9.1 billion.
Political and associative reactions were quick to respond to these figures. Several NGOs, including 350.org, Action justice climat Paris and Attac France, deplored Thursday that TotalEnergies posts indecent profits while the deputies rejected the day before the amendments aimed at taxing fossil profits in the 2027 budget.
These organizations are calling for the taxation of superprofits and the profits of fossil companies in order to finance public services, the ecological transition and support for households.
This situation comes as European gas exceeded 100 euros per megawatt hour on Wednesday for the first time in four years. This increase is explained in particular by transit difficulties from the Middle East and by low European stocks at the start of winter, levels that we have to go back to 2022, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, to observe.
TotalEnergies announced, Thursday, October 29, exceptional profits of 8.3 billion dollars, or 7.45 billion euros, in the third quarter of 2026 alone. The multinational recorded a total of 19.5 billion dollars net over the first nine months of the year. On the fuel market, the average price of diesel still exceeds 2.35 euros per liter, excluding capping.
