On November 23, 2025, Simon, 25, is hit in the knee by a 300-caliber bullet while running in the Vaucluse. A 72-year-old hunter mistook him for a wild boar. The first to reach him is the 72-year-old hunter. He explains that he took him for a wild boar.
During the 2025-2026 season, 92 hunting accidents, including four fatal ones, were recorded in France. Since the reopening in September, two fatal accidents have already occurred, including one in Lozère: a walker mistaken, once again, for a wild boar.
The hunting lodge of Vaison-la-Romaine is located in a building in the middle of the olive trees, on the heights. Large signs there recall the instructions, the wearing of brightly colored clothing and the marking of the area.
The young man is on a route of about ten kilometers, between forest and vineyards, heading toward his father's house, where he is expected for Sunday lunch.
According to him, no sign or marking indicated a drive hunt. He wonders about the presence of lethal weapons, with a range of up to two kilometers, on the same days when hikers, cyclists and joggers use the trails.
That day, the man is taking part in a wild boar drive with about fifteen other hunters. He is the one directing the operation. According to a reported account, Jacques shot a wild boar a few minutes earlier. Wild boars are then announced. The jogger arrives. The hunter turns and fires: it is not a wild boar.
