US federal agents carried out a court-authorised search at the Washington-area residence of Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
The search began around 6:00am, with several agents wearing Homeland Security Investigations jackets seen outside the home, according to US media citing sources familiar with the matter. The Department of Justice confirmed a judicially authorised search was executed in the Washington DC area, though officials did not identify Omar or disclose the nature of the investigation.
The operation occurs three weeks before midterm elections that will decide control of Congress. Omar, 44, is a leftist Democrat, a fierce critic of the Republican president, and came to the United States from Somalia as a child.
