Michaël P., Arnaud B. and Ludovic F., now aged 40, 35 and 30, must be tried before the Paris Criminal Court. A fourth police officer was placed under the status of assisted witness in this case.
The facts date back to an arrest during which the forty-year-old was tackled and then held on the ground, on his stomach, by three of the police officers, Michaël P., Arnaud B. and Ludovic F. In the videos, she appears on Cédric's body at one point during the arrest.
According to the medico-legal expertise, Cédric Chouviat died as a result of asphyxia with fracture of the larynx. The information collected also does not say which action more than another directly led to the death of Cédric Chouviat.
For the victim's family, these elements remain insufficient and they judge that the violence was intentional and constituted a crime.
This trial addresses the central question of the qualification of the violence and the intentionality of the police, a major issue for the civil parties since the start of the procedure.
At the start of the hearing on Monday, the defense will plead, with two colleagues, the incompetence of the criminal court and will request the referral of the case to a criminal court.
