On October 23, while driving his car, Kévin T. killed Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old Frenchman of African origin, and injured seven other people, four of them seriously, mostly of African and Maghrebi origin. Kévin T., charged in the racist attack of October 23 in Trappes and La Verrière (Yvelines), attempted to hang himself in detention, two sources close to the case told AFP.
Convicted four times in the past, the last time in 2012, he reported psychological problems as well as heavy drug use from the age of 13.
His life not being in danger, he was able to return to his cell after being treated by emergency services.
The investigation continues. The suspect remains in detention.
He was charged and jailed on October 29. According to the prosecution, he admitted targeting Muslim, African or North African people.
This attempt “took place a few days ago, followed as usual by treatment by emergency services,” one of these sources specified. This suicide attempt “nonetheless raises legitimate questions about his psychological state, which will have to be the subject of a thorough medical evaluation,” they added.
The prosecutor had specified that, according to the doctor, the schizophrenia diagnosis alleged by Kévin T. was not established with certainty in the elements then available.
