To allow the A69 to go through, about fifteen roundabouts have been installed on the RN126, which will soon be downgraded to a departmental road. Along the municipalities bordering the route, residents and elected officials already say the A69 is creating new traffic problems, especially for those who do not want to, or cannot, use it.
The 53 km A69 motorway opens on Friday, 6 November, France 3 Occitanie confirmed.
From opening, trucks will in part be required to use the motorway, while the municipalities of Soual and Puylaurens have issued municipal orders banning heavy goods vehicles from driving through the town centre.
On the eve of the opening, elected officials from both the right and the left, who had strongly backed the project, fear that the toll price, higher than expected, will hinder the long-hoped-for opening-up of the south of the Tarn.
Residents along the route due to open on Friday are in particular forced to take detours if they want to keep using free routes for their daily journeys.
