This option has existed since February 2026, but only when a new participant was added. The limit remains unchanged: it is impossible to view the full history of exchanges since the group was created. The ceiling is set at 100 messages.
To avoid this recap, the app now lets users forward up to 100 older messages to a member, even after that person has joined the group.
The issue is practical: in very active groups, hundreds of messages can pile up each day, and a participant who joins midway has access to none of the earlier exchanges.
It must be triggered voluntarily by a member of the group. All participants are notified when messages are forwarded.
The situation is common. Friends organize a weekend on WhatsApp, a relative joins the discussion, and someone has to summarize what has already been said.
Sharing can now be started after the fact by tapping the new arrival’s name in the conversation.
WhatsApp has just announced several new features designed to make exchanges easier in group conversations.
WhatsApp also lets users pin a message permanently in a conversation.
It is no longer necessary to choose a duration of 24 hours, seven days, or 30 days. An intercom code, an address, or a birthday date can remain displayed at the top of the chat with no time limit.
