The government plans to cut tax benefits on furnished rentals as part of its 2027 budget, a measure aimed at finding new revenue.

The concept of furnished accommodation has experienced a meteoric rise, representing 2% of rentals in 1980, 12% in 2019, with estimates reaching 30% in 2028. This success can be explained by very advantageous taxation and higher incomes, with owners renting their property 10% to 20% more expensive than similar bare accommodation.

This idea makes owners and real estate players bristle. Loïc Cantin, of the National Real Estate Federation, concedes that such injustice does not exist for bare rental, while criticizing the idea of reducing this tax advantage for the future. Some professionals are also seeing a desertion of their clients who are no longer purchasing rental properties.
