The King of Spain Felipe VI arrived in Ceuta on Tuesday October 13, greeted by an enthusiastic crowd who waved Spanish or Ceuta flags and shouted"Felipe, Felipe!"and “Long live Spain!”.

This diplomatically sensitive visit comes two and a half months after the massive influx of migrants into this Spanish enclave in northern Africa, whose sovereignty is claimed by Morocco.

The King of Spain and Queen Letizia shook many hands and interacted with the Ceutians present in large numbers near the town hall of the city, the first stop on their trip.

This is the first visit by a Spanish sovereign to the enclave since that of Juan Carlos, the father of Felipe VI, in 2007, which then caused a diplomatic crisis with Rabat.

On Wednesday, Felipe VI and Letizia will travel to Melilla, the other Spanish enclave located in North African territory.
