Spain experienced the hottest September since measurements began in the country in 1961, national weather agency Aemet said.
An average temperature of 22.5°C was recorded, 3.4°C above the September normal over the 1991-2020 reference period, and 0.7°C higher than the hottest September recorded to date, in 1987.
The agency insisted that, for the first time, a month of September presented an average temperature higher than the normal summer average. Aemet describes this excess as an anomaly.
