South Africa's deputy police chief has resigned three weeks after being charged with sexual offences. Shadrack Sibiya, 59, is accused of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl and raping an 18-year-old woman. He has denied these charges.
Sibiya was also accused of interfering with investigations into political killings in KwaZulu-Natal province. Additionally, he faces allegations of having links to organised crime bosses and receiving a gift of cash, as well as 20 impalas, from an alleged criminal kingpin in exchange for a police contract.
The allegations of links to organised crime led to Sibiya being suspended last year. He denies all of the allegations against him.
