Russia struck six Ukrainian energy facilities hours after US President Donald Trump announced the two countries had agreed to an energy ceasefire, Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Zelensky stated that 33 people had been injured in the strikes on energy facilities across the country, adding that Russia continued to hit power plants, gas stations, and other facilities while Ukraine did not attack.

Blackouts occurred in the city of Izyum after a Russian strike destroyed power grids, according to Ukraine's state news agency Ukrinform, while energy and railway infrastructure in western Ukraine was also targeted overnight.

Despite Trump stating on Sunday the truce would be effective immediately, Zelensky said he thinks the strikes were Putin's answer to President Trump.
