Sedgefield Racecourse has been fined £6,500 after failing to comply with five general instructions of safety when an injured jockey was transported to hospital in a horsebox.
Sedgefield Racecourse has acknowledged the errors and shortcomings identified in the incident, while a subsequent inspection conducted in April revealed significant progress at the venue.
Without an available ambulance on site, the injured rider was placed into a horsebox for the journey to the accident and emergency department, with medical staff following behind in a car.
The unidentified jockey suffered a left clavicle and shoulder injury after a fall at the course and was initially examined by an on-site doctor.
The penalty addresses a serious breach of protocol that occurred after all ambulance crews had already left the venue following a race.
A racecourse was fined £6,500 after a jockey was taken to hospital in a horsebox instead of an ambulance.
"The 'general instructions' require proper transfer to hospital with accompaniment from qualified medical staff not, as here, being followed in a car,"the BHA panel said.
The injured jockey's identity was kept private but it was reported that he suffered a left clavicle and shoulder injury after a fall, and was examined by a doctor at the course.
