A rare humanitarian ceasefire allowed civilians to evacuate the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky before the truce concluded at 22:59 Ukrainian time on Sunday. The city had been trapped on one side by the Dnipro river and the other by Russian forces, with routes out mined and subject to drone attack.
The temporary halt in fighting enabled Oleshky residents to leave the area if they chose to do so. Saturday brought emotional scenes of reunions between loved ones who had not seen each other for years.
Simultaneously, emergency power cuts were introduced across the country because of regular attacks on energy infrastructure.
Evacuees faced a complex journey out of the region. Ukrainian military positions sat just 5km from Oleshky, but evacuees had to travel through Russian-occupied territory to southern Russia, where they flew to Belarus before being driven across Ukraine's northern border.
At 23:53, a series of all-clear messages were delivered to users' phones connected to each of the previous Kyiv alerts, individually declaring each threat clear.
The app had reported a red-level air raid alert for the oblast in Ukraine's east, between 22:50 and 23:57.
At 23:53 a series of all clear messages were then delivered to users' phones, which were connected to each of the previous Kyiv alerts, individually declaring each threat clear.
