The residents of the commune of Saint-Fons will have to return to the polls after the administrative court canceled the municipal elections on Monday, October 12.
The elections in this commune south of Lyon had been won by La France insoumise, but the court ruled due to irregularities on a rival list.
The LFI list led by Hadi Mebarki, a former deputy to the outgoing mayor, had obtained more than 37% of the vote in the first round before winning nearly 41% of the votes.
The judge considered that the expression of suffrage of the voters of Saint-Fons who voted for the list led by Mr. Mebarki was affected.
This is the third similar case for the Insoumis in the Rhône department, following the cancellation of elections in Vaulx-en-Velin and Vénissieux for the same reasons.
