Israeli settlers attacked a convoy of European diplomats in the occupied West Bank on Saturday October 17, beating a French mayor, Bernard Baudoux. The incident occurred as cars from the French, Belgian and Polish missions brought diplomats to Taybeh, a predominantly Christian village, to prevent Palestinian farmers from picking olives.
The attackers made aggressive statements against the diplomats before kicking Bernard Baudoux, 78, communist mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, in the North.
A witness said he saw more than 50 masked men armed with sticks and iron bars. After being beaten, Bernard Baudoux said:"I think that if the settlers act like that, there is tolerance from the Israeli government.".
