Nepal has proposed bringing together regional rivals India and China to confront shared climate threats in the environmentally fragile and geopolitically sensitive Himalayas.
Shah called for the creation of a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism to strengthen cross-border disaster response and the sharing of scientific data and expertise between the countries.
Disasters can sweep across national boundaries to threaten lives, infrastructure, and livelihoods downstream, making co-operation increasingly important despite long-standing territorial disputes between India and China.
Neither India nor China has formally responded to the proposal.
