In Texas, for the first time since 1995, a Democrat is about to lead the state. Republicans are suffering a double defeat in one of their strongest strongholds. Texas Democrats were exultant on Wednesday. Democrats, previously in the minority in the Senate, have won an absolute majority in the upper chamber, with at least 52 seats. Thirty-five of the Senate's 100 seats were up for election.

Faced with the scale of the opposition's gains, which is on the verge of taking control of the entire Congress, the Republican does not appear to want to contest the verdict of the ballot box. He had always refused to recognize his defeat in the 2020 presidential election and had launched accusations of fraud even before these midterms.

As the hours passed on Wednesday, the elections took on the appearance of a rout for Republicans. Democrats are retaking control of both chambers by making inroads in Republican strongholds.

The results, still partial, take on the appearance of a protest vote against President Donald Trump and his administration.

Conservatives had held a very slim majority there since 2025, 218 seats to 214 for Democrats. Both houses of Congress had until now been dominated by the Republican Party. The midterm elections held Tuesday, November 3 in the United States ended Wednesday, November 4 with a clear lead for Democrats over the Republican camp.

In the House of Representatives, all 435 seats of which were up for renewal, Democrats are winning the majority with at least 220 seats, according to the real-time count. Republicans are losing at least 25 seats.
