The students gathered on Tuesday October 20 morning in Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine, say they are more mobilized than ever following the demonstrations of October 17, which were also marked by more than 2.2 million messages posted on X, three times more than during the first mobilization of the yellow vests.
The demonstrators are making stable demands, demanding more teachers, more resources and decent premises, while expressing the feeling of being supported by part of the population.
On social networks, different sites are calling for a new day of demonstrations next Saturday, while the unions are not calling for demonstrations that day but are keeping the focus on Thursday, November 5 for a day of strike and peaceful demonstration against the high cost of living.
This protest takes place in a climate of tensions and political debates, illustrated in particular by a skirmish between the government and La France insoumise concerning the violence of October 17, as well as by questions about the role of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
The mobilization of October 17, which brought together 500,000 to 800,000 people last Saturday according to estimates, also highlighted unusual profiles of thugs, stolen objects found for sale on Snapchat, as well as news items on the sidelines of the gatherings.
