Chris Brown received a suspended eight-month prison sentence following a nightclub attack that involved striking a music producer with a glass bottle. Both men, who had pleaded guilty to affray, were also ordered to pay £1,500 costs.
Laurie-Anne Power KC, Brown's defence lawyer, told the court that the singer apologises to all those present at the club at the time of the incident. She added that the attack was something which undoubtedly would have caused distress to those present. Brown was also described as being like a brother to co-accused Akinlolu.
CCTV footage shown in court captured the R&B star striking the victim, identified as Diaw, four times with the bottle, connecting twice with his head and then hitting his shoulder. The attack left no fractures or broken skin and featured an absence of serious injuries, according to the defence argument.
Following the conclusion of the judge's sentencing remarks, Brown and Akinlolu stood up, faced one another, and clasped hands before walking out of the glass dock. Loud cheers echoed outside the court as Chris Brown left the building, where he appeared to stop and sign an autograph.
After the sentencing, Brown shared a video from inside his car on his Instagram story. The footage showed him looking out the window before turning to the camera and giving a thumbs-up.
