At least 33 pupils and a teacher were killed after a school roof collapsed in the north-western city of Peshawar, with rescue officials fearing more people remain buried under the debris.
Peshawar police chief Mian Saeed confirmed that classrooms on three floors were brought down after the roof of an upper-floor classroom collapsed, causing ceilings below to cave in as well.
According to emergency official Arif Khattak, the school is located in a building that had been constructed on a temporary basis.
The Al-Khair school is situated in a narrow street allowing only one vehicle to pass through at a time, making it difficult for rescue workers to reach the site and transport the injured to hospitals.
