This legislation positions Greece among the first countries in the European Union, after France, to legislate on this issue. More than twenty countries around the world have adopted similar measures mainly targeting those under 15 or 16 years old, like Australia which has implemented a ban for under 16s since the end of 2025.
The text passed by the Greek Parliament provides for age verification mechanisms as well as severe sanctions against platforms in the event of non-compliance.
The system is also part of the European regulatory proposal entitled the Kids Act.
