An XXL data center project from Google is causing controversy in Indre, near Châteauroux, and is increasingly contested by residents and elected officials despite the promise of the creation of hundreds of jobs.
Google plans to set up its first mega-data center in France in an area still covered by fields and hedges, in Étrechet, representing 8 to 10 buildings 20 meters high on more than 200 hectares of agricultural land.
This site is one of the 150 strategic industrial projects announced on April 22 by Emmanuel Macron. Citizens are invited to vote on the project from next month, while the mayor of Châteauroux defends the project and announces more than a thousand jobs during construction and beyond.
