An Action Against Hunger report, which France Inter was able to consult, reveals Monday October 12 that 7 million adults in mainland France say they lack food, with a rate reaching 25% among 18-24 year olds.

This report is published ahead of World Food Day, which takes place this Friday, October 16.

The OpinionWay survey for Action Against Hunger shows that"13% of French people say they sometimes or often lack food, which is called quantitative food insufficiency.".

The association also calls for signing the European citizens' initiative for the recognition of the right to food, which aims for one million signatures in the European Union by January 7, 2027,"so that the European Commission officially examines the request for a legislative framework guaranteeing this right".

According to the survey carried out by the NGO, faced with this food insecurity, 80% of the people concerned cite “financial difficulties”.

Among the measures put forward,"make the canteen accessible to all children, with prices adapted to the resources of families","facilitate access to fresh and quality products throughout France, in particular by supporting local shops and markets in areas which lack them"or even"guarantee fair and remunerative prices for farmers and support sustainable agricultural models".
